Jason and I met in college - California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo (Go Mustangs)! We both loved college and worked at the beef unit on campus, which is the largest program in the Animal Science department. If you don’t know much about this unit (which most of you probably don’t), it’s home to so many events like FFA state finals, Pig & Lamb camp, and lots more. It’s a great place to get hands-on experience with the animals.
Jason lived on campus, and we were friends for about a year before we started dating. We got to participate in so many animal science activities together and it didn’t take us long to realize we wanted to be with each other. I remember taking this class with him on artificial insemination and to be honest, had no idea what I was doing. Jason was already certified in AI and our professor told him, “if she doesn’t learn how to breed a cow, you’re failing this class,” and Jason took it personally! Challenge accepted.
I’m sharing a photo of us in our college years trying to breed a cow. I remember putting my arm in this cow and for the life of me, couldn’t find her cervix. Jason had to put his arm in with mine and help me - maybe that’s when we locked eyes and realized we were each other’s forever. Or maybe I just really wanted to get my hand out of that poor cow, but either way I knew he was my person.
This southern California girl was simply enamored with this midwestern cowboy - he stole my heart and has every day since!
